Best beaches in Rethymno South Coast:

Preveli Beach

Preveli’s unique palm beach, an exotic lagoon creating a dreamy landscape. Preveli reminds of an exotic lagoon. It is an oasis of palm trees with crystalline greenish waters and fine soft sand. Apart from the superb palm trees, lush vegetation surrounds the beach and the river, creating a dreamy landscape.

Ammoudi Beach

Ammoudi is a beach complex located 4km east of Plakias. It is very close to the village Lefkogia. The paved road leads to the first beach of the area, Ammoudi, with a characteristic green slippery rock in the middle. The beach is slightly organized, with umbrellas and some taverns and rooms nearby. Moreover, in Amoudi you can find a scuba diving centre. Amoudi has thick white sand and rocky seabed, ideal for diving and snorkeling, and the waters have a bright green color. Next to the beach there are many tamarisk trees, under which you can find shade and camp.

Kalypso beach

Kalypso beach is located on south of Rethymno between Plakias village and Preveli beach. Kalypso is very impressive to say the least as it is surrounded by high rocks. The small port was used as shelter by pirates about 300 years ago. Kalypso Cretan Village is a hotel complex by the beach that has organised the area with umbrellas and sunbeds that are also open to non-residents. Κalypso Dive Center and School also operates at the beach if you wish to discover the deep blue waters of the Lybian sea!
